Monumento 872
What began as a simple end of the year party ended in a culmination of art, music, community, history, technology, and last but not least—tacos. UCLA’s TFT course in Interactive Multimedia teamed with REMAP to explore the history of Los Angeles through the integration of cutting edge Nokia N83 mobile devises and Cisco Systems WiFi grid. We used these devises to map Los Angeles in innovative ways using GPS and REMAP’s massive image database. (more…)
Germs Burn for Darby Crash
This piece was presented as part of the Visual Music Concert performed by UCLA Design | Media Arts students under the direction of Casey Reas. Each student chose from a list of experimental sound pieces. We then used Processing to create our representation of this piece through animate visuals. My visuals are an abstraction of Matmos’ piece “Germs Burn For Darby Crash”. It was originally intended as a performance, as the visuals were 50% controlled by myself and 50% by the sound itself.
Inflatable Structure

For our final project in Cameron McNall’s introduction to form class at UCLA Design | Media Arts we created our own take on inflatable structures. For my piece, I created a 3D rendering of my form using Blender3D. I then projected a 2D template of this rendering on to large pieces of thick .7mm painters plastic. This plastic was then cut out and stiched together using packaging tape. I added a zipper entry found at the local Home Depot for easy entry. A collection of sandbags were used to hold the whole thing from blowing away. The interior consisted of two chambers connected by a short corridor. The design was loosely based on an infinity sign. DMX lighting was also incorporated to create the effect of a breathing organism.
